Writing Across the Curriculum

Learning Community

The Writing Across the Curriculum Learning Community provides instructors across disciplines with training in effective writing pedagogy. Participants will explore research-based best practices for designing writing assignments and activities to promote learning in their classes. Additional takeaways include strategies for responding to student writing, tactics for facilitating writing workshops, and a “teaching writing” tool kit. This learning community draws from the Writing-Across-the-Curriculum / Writing-in-the-Disciplines (WAC/WID) movement in higher education.

Activities and discussions are built around  Engaging Ideas: The Professor’s Guide to Integrating Writing, Critical Thinking, and Active Learning in the Classroom3rd edition by Bean and Melzer.

ELIGIBILITY

The Writing-Across-the-Curriculum LC is open to all faculty and graduate students. Full-time faculty interested in developing CO-3 / LAW3 courses for the Liberal Arts Curriculum are especially encouraged to apply, but any faculty using writing in their class will find this learning community helpful!

REQUIREMENTS

Participants are asked to attend all meetings and participate in ongoing evaluation. This learning community begins in January with asynchronous material and meets twice each month on Zoom from February – April. Specific meeting dates and times will be decided once the Learning Community is formed.

COMPENSATION
